Frequently Asked Questions

About marktravelz

What sets marktravelz apart from a regular travel agency?

marktravelz isn’t a travel agency selling catalogue packages – we’re personal travel curators. We discuss every route individually, and we know every property from personal experience. Mark has travelled to more than 140 countries and brings that knowledge into every recommendation. And once you’ve travelled through southern Africa with Wynand as your personal guide, you’ll want to travel with him again.

Who are your trips designed for?

Our trips are for anyone seeking something special – and willing to choose real experiences over standard packages. Most of our clients are couples, families, or groups of friends. What connects them: curiosity, openness, and the desire for journeys that truly stay with you.

How does booking with marktravelz work?

As soon as we receive your enquiry, we get in touch personally – by email, WhatsApp, or phone, whichever you prefer. We listen, understand your wishes, and create a personalised travel proposal. We discuss it together and refine it until it’s right. Once you confirm your booking and pay the deposit, we secure your accommodations.

What languages are trips conducted in?

We communicate in German and English. Wynand guides his safaris in German and English. For certain destinations we work with local guides who speak additional languages – just ask us.

Planning & Booking

How far in advance should I book?

Good lodges – especially in high season – are often booked out well in advance. We recommend starting your planning at least 9–12 months before your intended departure. For exclusive accommodations with limited availability, such as gorilla trekking permits, an even longer lead time may be needed.

Can I design a trip completely to my own preferences?

Yes, we take your specific wishes into account and tailor a trip just for you.

Do you also offer trips for solo travellers?

Yes, we’re happy to design a trip for solo travellers too. Please note: most lodges charge a single-room supplement, as room rates are generally calculated based on two people. We’ll state this supplement transparently in your quote.

Are your trips suitable for families with children?

Yes – family trips are close to our hearts. We know the accommodations and programmes that genuinely work well for children. Important note: many national parks and lodges set a minimum age of 12 for safari activities such as game drives or walking safaris. We’ll advise you on which destinations and camps make for an unforgettable experience with younger children too.

Payment & Insurance

How can I pay?

Once your booking is confirmed, you’ll receive an invoice from us with all the details. Payment is made conveniently by bank transfer, in two steps: a deposit at the time of booking, and the balance before departure. We’ll communicate the exact deadlines transparently in your quote.

What travel insurance do you recommend?

We strongly recommend taking out trip cancellation and interruption insurance before every journey – especially for safari trips with complex logistics and high upfront payments. You can take out suitable insurance directly on our website.

How do you handle cancellations?

Before booking, we inform you transparently about all cancellation deadlines and conditions. As a rule of thumb: the earlier you cancel, the lower the costs incurred. To cancel, a simple email to us is enough – we take care of the rest.

Practical Information

What vaccinations do I need?

Before booking, we inform you about recommended vaccinations. We also provide general travel advice for your chosen country. In addition, we recommend speaking with a travel medicine specialist well ahead of your trip. The doctor will give you precise recommendations for country-specific vaccinations and, if needed, malaria prophylaxis, based on your vaccination record.

What visas do I need?

We inform you before booking about the required visas and general entry requirements. For current, country-specific information, we also recommend the German Federal Foreign Office website: auswaertiges-amt.de

Is marktravelz legally a tour operator?

Yes, marktravelz generally operates as a tour operator, with all the legal protections provided under German package travel law (Pauschalreisegesetz). In exceptional cases, when we exclusively arrange a single service or book individual accommodations, we act as a travel agent. We’ll always tell you transparently which role applies in your specific case.
