Botswana – elephant herd at a waterhole

Botswana

Elephants, Delta, Wilderness – Africa in its Purest Form.

Botswana is the destination for those who want to truly experience Africa – untouched, silent, and inhabited by wildlife that takes your breath away. Over 120,000 elephants live in Chobe National Park alone. The Okavango Delta – the world’s only inland delta and a UNESCO World Heritage Site – is a unique ecosystem of waterways, islands and wetlands that attracts millions of animals every year.

Botswana prioritises quality over quantity: few, exclusive camps, strict protected areas and a tourism policy focused on high standards and low visitor numbers. Those who come here have the wilderness almost to themselves.

Mark and Wynand know these camps and concessions from firsthand experience – and take you to places that have deliberately stayed off the mass-tourism map.

Botswana Highlights (10 days)

„From Chobe to the Okavango Delta”

This journey leads through Botswana’s two most wildlife-rich regions: from the vast elephant herds on the Chobe River to the quiet waterways of the Okavango Delta. Three extraordinary camps, three completely different landscapes – united by a shared promise: here, nature is the host. The programme is displayed without fixed prices. Every journey is tailored individually to your wishes and travel dates. Get in touch – we will create a personal proposal for you.

Days 1–4 – Chobe National Park: Kasane
Days 1–4

Chobe National Park: Kasane

Arrival at Kasane Airport – Wynand picks you up. Chobe National Park greets you immediately: elephant herds on the riverbank, buffalo on the plains, lions at dawn. Chobe Bakwena Eco Lodge sits directly on the river – a small, owner-run lodge focused on excellent personal service. It would be a miracle if you didn’t see elephants swimming across the river here.

Two activities daily of your choice: game drive in the national park or boat safari on the Chobe River. From the boat you observe elephants, hippos and crocodiles at close range – at sunset over the river, a sight you won’t soon forget.

🏨 Accommodation: Chobe Bakwena Eco Lodge

Days 5–7 – Okavango Delta: Machaba Camp, mokoro safari
Days 5–7

Okavango Delta: Machaba Camp, Khwai Concession

Flight into the Okavango Delta – within minutes the landscape shifts from Chobe’s vast plains to the green labyrinth of the Delta. Machaba Camp is nestled in the Khwai Concession, a 35,000-hectare private reserve bordering Moremi Game Reserve. Traditional safari tents under trees on the Khwai River, overlooking the floodplains and Moremi beyond.

The Khwai Concession is known for exceptional wildlife density: buffalo and elephant herds, leopards, lions and the rare African wild dogs. Morning and evening game drives daily, plus mokoro safaris on the Delta’s waterways: gliding silently through water lilies, spotting hippos beneath the surface, observing birds in their natural habitat. Night game drives are also permitted in this concession – a rare opportunity to witness nocturnal wildlife.

🏨 Accommodation: Machaba Camp

Days 8–10 – Okavango Delta: Kiri Camp, hippo in the delta
Days 8–10

Okavango Delta: Kiri Camp, Kiri Concession

Short flight from Machaba to the Kiri Concession – a private reserve in the NG32 region of the Okavango Delta, one of Botswana’s most productive wildlife areas. Kiri Camp sits elevated on a slope, its eco-luxury canvas tents on decks with unobstructed views over the vast Kiri floodplains – during flood season, a panorama without equal.

Kiri is renowned for its exceptional predator concentration: large lion prides, leopards, cheetahs and regular African wild dog sightings. Add buffalo herds, elephants and – during flood season – boat safaris on the Kiri River. Walking safaris with experienced rangers take you on foot through the islands and bush landscapes – here you discover the details hidden from a vehicle: tracks, scents, the crunch underfoot. For the final evening: sundowners on the deck terrace overlooking the plains – a worthy farewell.

🏨 Accommodation: Kiri Camp

Day 10

Departure

Flight back to Kasane or Maun. Botswana leaves a vivid picture: elephants at sunset, the silence of the Delta, the call of a wild dog in the night.

Important Notes

  • Botswana follows a low-volume high-value tourism policy – fewer guests, exclusive experiences, the highest wildlife protection standards.
  • All activities are weather-dependent. During flood season (June–August), water-based activities are particularly spectacular.
  • Wildlife sightings cannot be guaranteed – the success rate in these areas is however exceptionally high.
  • We recommend taking out travel cancellation and interruption insurance for all journeys.
