Day 1: Islamabad – Skardu – Scenic mountain flight – Kharpocho Fort – Skardu Bazaar
We start our journey with a spectacular flight from Islamabad to Skardu. On clear days, the aerial views are unforgettable: Nanga Parbat, Rakaposhi and Kanjut Sar tower above the clouds, and with some luck, even K2 and Broad Peak reveal themselves before landing.
Upon arrival, we meet our local guide and transfer to the hotel. After some rest, we head out to explore the historic Kharpocho Fort, built by the legendary Ali Sher Khan of the Anchan Dynasty. From here, we enjoy sweeping views of the valley before descending a short trail to the banks of the mighty Indus River.
The day ends with a stroll through the lively Skardu Bazaar and, if open, a visit to the small but fascinating K2 Museum.

Day 2: Skardu – Khaplu – Scenic drive through Shyok Valley – Khaplu Palace – Chaqchan Mosque
After breakfast, we begin our journey eastward to Khaplu. The scenic drive (approx. 3 hours) follows the winding Shyok River through breathtaking mountain landscapes, with views of the Masherbrum and Saltoro ranges unfolding along the way.
Once a key stop on the ancient trade route to Ladakh, Khaplu lies at 2,600 meters and holds a rich cultural and architectural heritage. Upon arrival, we check in at the beautifully restored Khaplu Palace, former seat of the Yabgo rulers of Turkic descent.
In the afternoon, we explore the atmospheric village on foot, visit the historic Khaplu Palace and the Chaqchan Mosque – one of the oldest in the region, dating back over 700 years.

Day 3: Khaplu – Excursion to Machulo Valley – Historic sites – Tauqseqar mountain hike
After a relaxed breakfast, we set out on a short drive to the scenic Machulo Valley (approx. 60–75 minutes). Nestled at 2,650 meters, the valley offers panoramic views of surrounding peaks and fertile orchards in bloom. With clear skies, the striking pyramid of Masherbrum (7,821 m) dominates the horizon.
Back in Khaplu, we visit two spiritual landmarks: the Khanqah-e-Mualla (grand monastery) and the Astana-e-Mir Muhammad, beautifully restored with support from the Royal Norwegian Embassy.
In the afternoon, we hike from the Serena Khaplu Palace up to Tauqseqar (approx. 3,000 m). The trail rewards us with sweeping vistas over the valley before we descend again to our hotel.

Day 4: Khaplu – Shigar – Sarfaranga Cold Desert – Hashupi Gardens
We leave Khaplu and drive westwards to Shigar (approx. 3 hours). En route, we stop at the remarkable Sarfaranga Cold Desert – one of the highest deserts in the world at 2,226 meters. Towering sand dunes rise unexpectedly from the mountain landscape, creating a surreal contrast. Optional activities like parasailing or dune buggy rides are available (at own expense and risk).
We continue on to Shigar and check in at our heritage accommodation. In the afternoon, we visit the nearby Hashupi Gardens, a peaceful oasis with fruit orchards and native plants, nestled in the shadow of the Karakoram mountains.

Day 5: Shigar – River walk – Kari Dong Fortress – Historic Shigar exploration
After breakfast, we set out on a peaceful two-hour walk along the Shigar and Lugma Rivers. The trail leads through green pastures where sheep and goats graze along the water’s edge.
On the way back, we stop at Kari Dong, the rocky hill where Shigar’s first fortress once stood. From here, we enjoy sweeping views of the valley and the distant Haramosh Range.
In the afternoon, we explore the UNESCO-awarded Amburiq Mosque, the old bazaar and the restored spiritual retreat known as the Khanqah. The rest of the day is free to relax in the gardens of our heritage hotel.

Day 6: Shigar – Karimabad, Hunza – Scenic mountain drive – Nanga Parbat & Rakaposhi viewpoints
We leave Baltistan and begin our full-day drive to Hunza (approx. 7 hours, 350 km). We follow the Hargissa River toward Gilgit, hugging dramatic mountain slopes with steep drops to the Indus River below.
En route, we stop at several highlights: the viewpoint for mighty Nanga Parbat (8,126 m), the meeting point of the Karakoram, Himalaya and Hindukush ranges, and the confluence of the Gilgit and Indus rivers. From Gilgit, we join the legendary Karakoram Highway and pause for tea with a spectacular view of Rakaposhi (7,788 m), whose immense north face rises 6,000 meters from the valley floor.
In the late afternoon, we arrive in Karimabad and check into our hotel.

Day 7: Karimabad – Baltit & Altit Forts – Duiker sunset viewpoint
After a relaxed breakfast, we visit Baltit Fort, an 800-year-old stronghold of the Ayasho Dynasty. Lovingly restored, it now serves as an award-winning museum and cultural landmark.
Next, we explore nearby Altit Fort and its peaceful orchard garden. At the women-run Altit Café, we can enjoy traditional Hunza cuisine and visit the local workshop for handmade crafts and wooden furniture.
In the afternoon, we drive to Duiker Village (3,000 m) and hike to Hoshat viewpoint, 500 meters above the valley. From here, we watch the sun set over the dramatic peaks of the Ultar Range – a truly breathtaking scene. Return to the hotel in the evening.

Day 8: Karimabad – Gulmit – Passu – Suspension bridge adventure
We head north on the Karakoram Highway to Gulmit (2,450 m), a serene village in Upper Hunza, set along the strikingly blue Attabad Lake. This dramatic lake was formed after a landslide in 2010, and is now crossed via an impressive tunnel system.
In Gulmit, we stroll through the village, visit local workshops and see traditional handicrafts like carpet weaving. We continue to Passu to admire the stunning mountain scenery, including Tupopdan Sar, the iconic Passu Cones, and other 7,000-meter peaks.
Before returning to Karimabad, we take an exhilarating walk across the narrow, swaying Hussaini suspension bridge – not for the faint of heart!

Day 9: Karimabad – Nagar Valley – Hopper Glacier – Gilgit
Today we head southeast to Hopper in Nagar Valley, a fertile bowl framed by towering peaks. The scenic drive offers stunning views of both Nagar and the Ultar Mountain Range of Hunza.
In Hopper Village, we take a walk to the glacier viewpoint and, if conditions allow, step onto the glacier itself for a short, adventurous trek. Along the way, we meet locals and take in the raw beauty of the valley.
On our return, we visit Ganish Heritage Village, one of the oldest and best-preserved settlements in Hunza. Later, we continue our drive to Gilgit (approx. 3 hours), stopping once more at the Rakaposhi viewpoint before checking in at our hotel.

Day 10: Gilgit – Kargah Buddha – Gilgit Bazaar – Chinar Garden
Let’s explore Gilgit, a town that once played a key role in the strategic rivalry of the Great Game between the British and Russian Empires.
We begin with a visit to the 7th-century Kargah Buddha, a rock carving that once marked a stop for Buddhist pilgrims en route from China to Swat. We then stroll through Gilgit Bazaar, known for its colorful shops and lively atmosphere.
If open, we continue to Chinar Bagh, a peaceful garden that honors local freedom fighters. In the afternoon, we return to our hotel for a final evening in the mountains.

Day 11: Gilgit – Naran – Mountain passes – Lulusar Lake
We drive from Gilgit to Naran (approx. 250 km, 6–7 hours), beginning on the legendary Karakoram Highway. Along the way, we pause at the junction point of the three highest mountain ranges: the Karakoram, Himalayas, and Hindukush.
We continue on the scenic Chilas–Babusar–Naran road, ascending to Babusar Pass at 4,173 meters. Along the route, we stop at the beautiful Lulusar Lake – the largest natural lake in the Hazara region and source of the Kunhar River.
By late afternoon, we arrive in Naran and check in for a well-earned rest.

Day 12: Naran – Taxila – Islamabad – UNESCO sites & capital landmarks
This morning we leave Naran and journey south through the lush Hazara Valley (approx. 8–9 hours). The route takes us via the scenic Kaghan–Mansehra road and then onto the modern Hazara Motorway.
Before reaching Islamabad, we stop in Taxila, a UNESCO World Heritage Site known for its Greco-Buddhist ruins. We visit the impressive Taxila Museum, the Dharmarajika Stupa from the Ashoka period (3rd century BC), and the ancient city of Sirkap – rich in Bactrian Greek heritage.
Upon arrival in Islamabad, we explore the capital’s highlights: the iconic Faisal Mosque, Pakistan Monument, and panoramic views from Shakarparian Park. In the evening, we check in at our hotel.

Day 13: Departure – Farewell to Pakistan
After breakfast, transfer to the airport for your onward journey.
